The quick answer is slowly.
Take your time and slow it down.
You don’t want to walk out of the bathroom looking like you wrestled with Freddy Krueger or Edward Scissorhands.
Shaving doesn’t have to be a chore or rushed.
Put some music on and lather up some good shaving cream. Take your time enjoying the art of shaving.
One of the biggest mistakes we make when shaving is we get in a rush.
Find a Traditional Razor and Brush
There are plenty of videos and articles online that will show you the best this and the best that.
You can do a quick search and find some popular single blade razors along with some more traditional shaving creams you can use with a shaving brush.
Lather up some shaving cream in a jar and work that lather into your neck and face. This takes more time but it’s the process we are looking for. The process is what we need to reconnect with.
Listen to Music
Put on some good music. It doesn’t matter what it is. Find something that works for you.
Buy a Sonos speaker os something equivalent and put it in your bathroom. Or, use your smartphone with do not disturb turned on.
This is also a good time to find new music. Do a quick search on your phone in whatever music app you use and find an album to listen to.
Remember when we used to listen to the whole album? Give that a try. Find an album that is new to you and give it a listen. Listen to the whole album straight through.
Grab a Beer
Try a new brew. Pop a top and enjoy a new beer you recently found.
Take your time shaving while you take in all the flavors of a new Coffee Porter or Bourbon Barrel Whiskey Stout.
Try something new and get outside your comfort zone.
You don’t have to drink it fast.
Sip it. Enjoy it.
Make Some Changes to Your Bathroom
Upgrade your bathroom. Change the countertop, mirror or backsplash. Keep it simple but find a style that uses rich materials so you enjoy the space.
Incorporate some rock or tile. Maybe throw a granite countertop in with a rich pattern. Find a copper or stainless mirror with a thick frame.
Change out the standard inlay sink to one that sits on top of the counter with a waterfall faucet. It doesn’t matter what you do, find one that works for you.
Slow It Down
Most important is too slow it down. That is the whole point of this exercise.
Enjoy the simple things in life again.
We have lost the art of many things.
- Talking slowly
- Shaving slowly
- Drinking slowly
- Listening to albums
- Driving slowly
- Preparing real food slowly
Most important is to enjoy your shave again!
